Scientists at Ames and the University of Tennessee, Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries are examining the relationship between hunter observation data compiled during the hunting season and a population census conducted prior to the season. The census is attained by using infrared trail cameras over baited stations. Each station is located near the center of a 100-acre block and there are 60 stations, representing 6,000 acres in all. Three thousand acres are predominately agricultural and another 3,000 acres are located in densely wooded areas. The cameras are active for 14 days and the project was accomplished well before the hunting season began. During the course of the study about 17,000 images were captured.
